Banana Splits with Hot Fudge Sauce

ingredients

serves 4
1 once plain chocolate
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons warm milk
1/2 cup soft brown sugar
3 teaspoons corn syrup
2 — 3 drops vanilla extract

BANANA SPLITS
4 large ripe bananas, peeled
4 portions vanilla ice cream
1/4 pint heavy cream
1/4 cup walnuts, finely chopped
fresh cherries to decorate (optional)

method

1. First prepare the sauce by melting the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Add the butter and stir until smooth and glossy. Gradually blend in the milk.

2. Place this mixture with the sugar and corn syrup in a saucepan and heat gently to dissolve the sugar.

3. Bring to the boil and cook for 5 minutes. Add the vanilla extract and keep warm.

4. Meanwhile, split each banana in half and quickly sandwich together with the ice cream in four individual dishes.

5. Whip the cream until it stands in soft peaks. Spoon or pipe decoratively over the bananas and ice cream.

6. Sprinkle with the nuts and decorate with the cherries, if used.

7. Serve with the hot fudge sauce.
