1. Sift flour with salt; cut in shortening. Add milk and mix to a very stiff dough.
2. Place on floured board and beat with rolling pin or wooden potato masher 30 minutes, folding in edges after each stroke.
3. Roll 1/3 inch thick and cut with biscuit cutter.
4. Place on greased baking sheet and prick with a fork.
5. Bake in hot oven (400° F.) 20 minutes.
