If you are bored with plain boiled Brussels sprouts, try pepping them up with this unusual stir-fried method,which uses the minimum of oil.
ingredients
serves 4
1 pound Brussels sprouts, shredded
1 tsp sesame or sunflower oil
2 scallions, sliced
1/2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
1 tbsp light soy sauce
method
1. Trim the Brussels sprouts, then shred them finely using a large sharp knife or shred in a food processor.
2. Heat the oil and add the sprouts and onions, then stir-fry for about 2 minutes, without browning.
3. Stir in the five-spice powder and soy sauce, then cook, stirring, for a further 2 - 3 minutes, until just tender.
4. Serve hot, with grilled meats or fish, or Chinese dishes.
