1. Combine the beef, salt, pepper, grated onion and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
2. Wet your hands and shape the meat into small balls about the size of a large walnut.
3. Blanch the onions in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes, then cut into quarters.
4. Thread the meatballs, onion quarters and bay leaves on to four skewers, alternating the ingredients.
5. Brush with oil and cook over medium coals for 15 to 20 minutes, or until cooked.
6. Serve with grilled tomatoes and a crisp salad.
